Cindy* is 15 years old and in her third and last year of secondary school here at the Educational Center of NPH. Her older brother attended secondary school at NPH as well, and their family decided to enroll Cindy because of the quality education he received. Before NPH, Cindy attended a different primary school in the town of Parramos.

Here at NPH Guatemala, all of our students participate in vocational workshops when they enter secondary school. This year, Cindy has chosen the bakery workshop. “I realized that in the future I might need to feed my family! So that’s why I want to learn how to cook and bake quality meals.” Cindy quoted. She likes the vocational workshops here at NPH because they help her learn and prepare for the future. In prior years, she attended the cooking and also the sewing workshop.

Cindy is thankful for her family, who offer her all the possibilities to grow and lead a strong life. Like for most of the children here, family is everything and religion is a core value. Faith is very important, as she mentioned, “Without God I am nobody. I am thankful for NPH and the possibility to study here. This will allow me to become somebody.”

Cindy would like to study sustainable agriculture in the future, and then she wants to become an agriculture engineer. She feels strongly that we need to take care of our nature, our animals and plants on this earth. She said, “Here in Parramos the streets are very dirty because the people just throw their waste on the streets. I want to change this!” Cindy is very ambitious and intelligent but also keeps her core values in mind. She will complete secondary school this year and without a doubt continue on to high school next year.
