Children are globally recognized as an essential part of society and the key to our future. NPH fully believes and actively promotes this as well, which is why the Guatemalan staff was thrilled to join the rest of the country in celebrating National Children's Day.

This past October 1st, NPH Guatemala had a special celebration to highlight the importance of loving, accepting and appreciating children. At NPH, we do this every single day, but on Children’s Day, we celebrated with a variety of activities.

NPH offers the chance for children to be children again. Research shows that children learn best in an environment which allows them to explore, discover, and play. Play is an important part of a developmentally appropriate childcare program. It is also closely tied to the development of cognitive, socio-emotional, and physical behaviors. For Children’s Day, we simply wanted our kids to have the opportunity to laugh and play.

With the help of many people and organizations, we installed a little amusement park at the school’s playground. We set up bouncy castles, a Ferris wheel, a carousel and a high climbing wall. It was easy to see from their smiles and laughter that they were having a wonderful time. The older youths enjoyed themselves playing ping pong and billiards. Other games allowed children to display their talents and win fun prizes.

Just like at an amusement park, no one missed out on the treats! Cotton candy, ice cream and snacks made the perfect day for children. After the kids were exhausted from the games, they relaxed and enjoyed a show presented by all the employees, caregivers, teachers and volunteers. Watching the various comedies and hilarious costumes, each child happily winded down to enjoy a nice ending to a lovely day.
