NPH Guatemala, alongside other nonprofits from Guatemala and around the world, participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Casas Hope on 7 October 2019. This residential housing development project led by the team at ConstuCasa Guatemala is aimed at providing housing to families in Parramos, Chimaltenango, displaced by the 2018 Volcán de Fuego eruption.

NPH Guatemala contributed roughly US$16,000 toward the purchase of construction materials and labor and supervision costs. These materials—flooring, doors, and windows—were used to build two homes, perimeter walls, and rainwater collection basins for more than 10 families displaced by the Volcán de Fuego disaster. The new development was christened “Casas Hope.”

The ribbon cutting was preceded by an emotional ceremony where members of the affected families received deeds to their new homes. Many were barely able to contain their emotions as they thanked the assembled heads of NGOs, humanitarian organizations, and others for their compassion and dedication to the plight of the families.

The ceremony was attended by local media and an official from the municipality of Parramos.

“For NPH Guatemala, supporting the local community is an opportunity for us to put in practice our core organizational values of love, security, responsibility, and sharing,” Verónica Pérez, NPH Guatemala project coordinator said. “Today the community recognizes us as an ally that cares deeply for the people in the community. We thank our donors for having contributed to the support of these homeless families.”
