One of NPH Guatemala’s oldest youths publishes his own poetry, and strives to inspire others to reach their dreams. November 6, 2018 - Guatemala
Aron is happy to share his story.
Poetry expresses feelings and emotions; speaking to the heart to move others.
Aron* is a 23-year-old young man who was born in Chichicastenango, Quiché. Due to the lack of development opportunities in his community, Aron joined NPH Guatemala with his six brothers and sisters in November 1997.
"At the age of 11 while I was working on my life plan with the NPH psychologist, I discovered my passion for writing. A phrase sounded in my mind and inspired me to follow my dream: Just because life hits you hard, it does not mean that everything is over.”
Since that day, Aaron has written many stories and poems, and made short films. Now, other people can enjoy one of his most precious works published, a poetry book called ‘Un Suspiro’ (which means ‘A Sigh’ in English).
‘Un Suspiro’ emerged from the need to express the beautiful feeling of being in love and loving. "My favorite poem is called Te Confundiría (which means ‘You Would Be Wrong’ in English), because I wrote it inspired by someone special.
At NPH, I found many people who motivated me and also supported me, for example: my sponsors, teachers, caregivers in the home, and administrative staff. They made my dream come true.
Thanks to my godmother from Germany, after almost one year of revisions and corrections, I was able to publish my poems in Guatemala and across borders, because it is also available in Germany."
For NPH, it is important that children and young people discover their abilities and skills to achieve their dreams. The poetry collection ‘Un Suspiro’ is available at the De Museo store in Antigua, Guatemala.
"I like the path that Aron has chosen; he likes writing and has always had the idea of improving his life and his country" said Nicole, his godmother.
Currently Aron is finishing his Year of Service and works on the Green Team, doing activities to care for the environment. He explains that the work done in the home is related to raising awareness and spreading positive messages about the planet.
Aron is ready to enter university and continue to advance in his goals and dreams; he wants to study communication sciences or cinematography.
"I dream big, but I've learned that I have to move forward little by little, and I feel very motivated. I am very grateful and I know that I can not pay back the people who have helped me, but I want to help more people and inspire them to help other people."
Aron explains that he will continue working hard to continue fulfilling his dreams. The publication of Un Suspiro is just the beginning of many projects that he has; his biggest desire is to motivate others and be an example that dreams can come true.
